Following the sudden home going of Dr. Samuel Hsu, his family requested that gifts in his memory be given to Philadelphia Biblical University. The Samuel Hsu Memorial fund honors Dr. Hsu’s legacy of investing in the lives of students in three ways: by enhancing piano studies resources, by launching a summer music institute, and by recasting the PBU Community School of Music to provide greater opportunities for music students in the region.
On March 24, 2012, Dr. Hsu’s legacy was honored through music and testimony at the Dr. Samuel Hsu Memorial Concerts. Former students performed piano pieces and video interviews with colleagues and friends surveyed the more than 40-year relationship between Dr. Hsu and PBU. In addition, highlights from an interview conducted a few weeks before his death by Dr. Jonathan Master, Director, Center for University Studies, were shown.
In connection with the concert, a series of commemorative items were produced: a compilation audio CD of performances from throughout Dr. Hsu’s career, a DVD of interviews and videos commemorating Dr. Hsu’s life, and a booklet of Dr. Hsu’s writings. This commemorative packet is being offered for a limited time to donors of $100 or more to the Samuel Hsu Memorial Fund.
