Cairn Baseball Team Returns to Panama

In December 2014, the Cairn baseball team (led by Coach Jan Haas) returned to Panama with plans to serve the local communities alongside missionaries from SCORE International. SCORE seeks to spread the gospel and edify local churches in South America through evangelism, service, and missions. The team enjoyed playing baseball against local teams, running baseball clinics, visiting churches and indigenous tribes, and sharing their testimonies with members of the community.

Men’s Volleyball Team Serves Kensington Community

In January, the men’s volleyball team served at Rock Ministries, a Christian organization dedicated to reaching and serving at-risk, inner-city youth in Kensington, Philadelphia.

In addition to various outreach and afterschool programs, Rock Ministries also offers a robust sports ministry, striving to help the youth understand the importance of growing spiritually, as well as physically and mentally. The Cairn men’s volleyball team was able to serve by bringing Gatorade for the kids, encouraging them during training, and cleaning the church facilities after training ended. They also sat in on the devotionals and prayer time.

Cairn’s School of Education Serves in Hungary

During the last week of February, Cairn University sent a team to the annual SHARE Family Education Conference near Budapest, Hungary. SHARE Education Services is an organization founded to meet the unique educational needs of missionary families serving in eastern Europe and other areas of the world.

The Cairn team consisted of Dr. Judy Severns (missionary and adjunct professor in the School of Education), Mrs. Debbie Schrader (academic assistant in the School of Education), and seniors Hannah Blackmer and Lindsey D’Alessandro. During their week-long trip in Hungary, the team served in SHARE’S children’s program, teaching lessons on ancient Egypt through music, art, and special presentations.
