President Douglas MacCorkle, 1963 | In his 1963 inaugural address, the new president of Philadelphia College of Bible, Douglas MacCorkle, championed what he called the “urban conscience” for all Christian students. In line with that vision, he fully supported the development of a new major in Bible Social Work in 1965, as well as a College-wide initiative called Urban Advance, designed to holistically address the needs of the city of Philadelphia.
