The Council on Social Work Education’s (CSWE) accreditation commission reviewed the undergraduate-level social work programs in the School of Social Work at Cairn University. The accreditation for all programs was affirmed for eight years, without conditions or progress reports. This is the first time that the University has received accreditation for the maximum time period without a progress report—an accomplishment that speaks to the quality of the School of Social Work and its programs.
The reaccreditation application is a rigorous process which requires programs to maintain high quality standards and implement best practices in the field of social work. The CSWE also recently updated its assessment criteria, requiring curricula to be competency-based rather than based on course objectives. “We give praise and thanks to God for this news,” said Dr. Lloyd Gestoso, dean of the School of Social Work. “God has provided a team with the right experience and skills for this process, and we continue to seek how we can best teach others to love God and our neighbors.”
Cairn has offered a Bachelor of Social Work degree for over 50 years and was the first to promote a biblically integrated approach to every social work program. Each of Cairn’s social work programs reflect the belief that the world needs spiritually and professionally qualified individuals, characterized by grace and compassion, who provide competent interventions that change lives.
